Is this video an outlier?

Outlier means it beat its own channel
A big view count is mostly a big channel. An outlier is a video that outran the channel it lives on, which is why the check reads the channel's last 100 uploads, sets the baseline at the median views of the recent settled uploads in the same format, and divides. 3x is the common bar for calling it, 10x is the kind that reshapes a niche, and anything inside the channel's typical range is the channel doing what it always does.
What a yes is worth
An outlier is an idea that beat its own audience's expectations, which is the strongest signal available before you spend anything on making your version. Before copying it, check whether the same idea overperformed elsewhere in the niche. One hit can be luck, and the same topic landing on three channels is a pattern.
Age matters too. A 12x from two years ago has been absorbed by the niche already, every serious competitor has made their version. A 12x from last month is still open.
Questions
What multiple counts as an outlier?
There is no official line. 3x the channel's baseline is a sensible bar, 10x is exceptional, and the verdict here shows the multiple next to the channel's typical range so you can draw the line where it is useful to you.
Why does checking one video read the whole channel?
Because the answer is relative. The baseline needs the channel's recent uploads, so the check fetches the last 100, costs about 6 units of your free daily 10,000, and ranks the video among them along the way.
Does it work on Shorts?
Yes. A Short is measured against the channel's Shorts baseline and a long-form upload against the long-form one, so a 40-second video is never judged against 20-minute numbers.
The video is old. Does the check still mean anything?
The multiple is computed against the channel's baseline today, so for an old video it answers where the video stands now. One that still multiplies its channel's current baseline years later is an evergreen signal.
Why does it ask for my own API key?
The check runs from your browser straight to Google on the free Data API key every Google account can create, which carries 10,000 units a day. The key stays in your browser, and no account or credit counter sits in between.
