Subscribers are history, typical views are now
Subscriber counts accumulate forever, so they reward whoever started earlier. Typical views per upload is measured on the last 30 settled uploads, so it tells you whose ideas are landing this quarter. Two channels with the same subscriber count routinely sit an order of magnitude apart on it, and the one with the higher number is the one YouTube is currently distributing.
How to read the table
Typical views against subscribers shows how much of the audience still turns up. A 500K-subscriber channel with a 20K baseline is coasting on its back catalog, while a 60K-subscriber channel holding 30K is compounding. The biggest recent outlier shows each channel's current ceiling, and uploads per week shows how many shots at that ceiling each one takes.
Against a rival, the rows where you trail are the useful ones. Each is a testable difference in topic, format, or pace, and the rival's outlier row tells you which of their ideas their own audience validated most recently.
Questions
Which numbers come from YouTube and which are computed?
Subscriber counts, video counts and per-video views come from the YouTube Data API. Typical views, the typical range, uploads per week and the outlier multiple are computed here from the last 100 uploads of each channel.
Why does it ask for my own API key?
The comparison reads about 10 units from the free 10,000 every Google account's Data API key carries daily, straight from your browser to Google. Nothing passes through a server of ours.
Is comparing a Shorts channel against a long-form channel fair?
Each format is measured against its own baseline, so a Shorts-heavy channel and a long-form channel each show the number for what they publish. The table lists both baselines when a channel posts both.
Why only two channels?
