One viral hit ruins the plain average
Divide total views by video count on a channel with one runaway hit and you get a number no upload will ever match again. Twenty uploads at 5,000 views plus one at 2,000,000 average out to roughly 100,000, which describes nothing the channel does. The median of those uploads is 5,000, and that is what the next upload has to beat.
So the calculator reads the channel's recent uploads, drops anything younger than seven days because those are still climbing, takes the newest 30 settled uploads per format, and reports the median next to the mean. When the two disagree by a lot, the gap itself is information. It means a small number of uploads are carrying the channel.
Shorts and long-form are different games
A 40-second Short and a 20-minute upload reach different audiences through different surfaces, and blending them produces a number that flatters one and punishes the other. The calculator keeps two, so daily Shorts cannot drag the long-form figure down or prop it up.
The typical range shown under each number is the middle half of those uploads. An upload landing above it is a good day, an upload at several times the median is an outlier worth studying, and a run of uploads below it is the earliest sign a channel is cooling.

How is the average computed?
As the median views of the channel's newest 30 uploads per format, skipping anything younger than seven days so a still-climbing upload cannot drag the number. The plain mean over the same uploads is shown beside it for comparison.
Why the median instead of the mean?
Because view counts are skewed. One 2M-view hit on a 5K-view channel doubles the mean without changing what a normal upload earns. The median moves only when the middle of the distribution moves, which makes it the number to judge the next upload against.
Why does it ask for my own API key?
YouTube gives every Google account a free Data API key with 10,000 units a day. A run here costs about 5 of them, from your allowance, and the key stays in your browser with requests going straight to Google.
What if the channel posts both Shorts and long-form?
Each format gets its own median and typical range, and the calculator reports both when both exist. A channel's Shorts and long-form audiences settle at different levels, so one blended number would describe neither.
How many uploads does it read?
The last 100. The number itself uses the newest 30 settled uploads per format, which keeps it a description of the channel now rather than an average over its whole history.
